Islam came to Indonesia when it was considerably weak either in politic, economic or military aspects. Consequently, the early presence of Islam in this country could not directly transform the whole belief systems that are irreconcilable to its principal tenets. Islam could only penetrate into the country's cultural life through assimilation, not revolution. However, like other religions in general, Islam is always in flux. Islam is also subject to historical progress, in the sense that is evolving from "little" toward the "greater traditions" Fazlur Rahman (d. 1988) has characterized this transformation as the process of "orthodoxification" This article is an attempt to examine this transformation by scrutinizing the development of Islam in Indonesia as a part of process of orthodoxification, by focusing its consideration toward that development, up to the end of the 19th Century.

This paper is the result of research on the political thought of Abdullah Sungkar : The data found through, the observation on his recording of his religious proselytizing in many places, whether before his going to Malaysia or when he was been there. Other side, it found by the interview with some of his colleagues. The last one is to find the data about his life. The result of this research expresses that the person tends to have the literalism view in understanding the sacred text (al-Qur'ah). This kind of view has influenced on his political thought, for instance he refuses nationalism and democracy and puts on the obligation of standing of Islam Syari'ah.

"Pribumisasi Islam" is a term used by Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) for contextualisation of Islamic doctrine in Indonesia. It's also equally used as counter of discourse of "Arabization" (Arabic oriented) of religiousity that tends to formalize of religion and lacks of it's progressivity. In order to the grasp deep meaning of the doctrine, therefore, Gus Dur develops new models of interpretation based on cultural that will r-glue to roots of tradition. So universality values of Islam, then, fuse with locality values. This unity make a tranformative combination of understanding contextuality of doctrine.

Dalam sejarah Indonesia, pesantren sebagai suatu institusi lembaga pendidikan tradisional Islam, tidak diragukan lagi, telah memainkan peranan yang signifikan dalam membentuk karakter budaya perlawanan terhadap kaum penjajah yang bercocok di negeri ini. Banyak kajian telah dilakukan untuk itu, dan paper ini merupakan salah satu yang berupaya menguji signifikansi peranan pesantren di Indonesia pada masa kolonial, khususnya pada inspirasi keagamaan, jaringan dan motivasi politis, yang digunakan oleh para pemimpin keagamaan (kyai) dalam menghadapi kebijakan politik pemerintahan Belanda. Berdasarkan berbagai deskripsi, penulis akhirnya menyepakati bahwa pesantren, dengan segenap struktur yang ada di dalamnya seperti kyai, santri, dan kitab kuning, telah memberikan inspirasi yang banyak dalam perlawanan terhadap kebijakan kultural dan politis penjajah Belanda.

Kelompok Islam Wetu Telu adalah sekte Islam di Lombok, yang hanya menjalankan tiga rukun Islam, yaitu: membaca dua kalimah syahadat, salat dan puasa. Ketiga rukun Islam tersebut, cukup dijalankan oleh kiai selaku pemimpin agama yang menghubungkan mereka dengan Tuhan Allah. Mereka juga berkepercayaan tentang adanya roh suci para nenek moyang dan kekuatan gaib pada benda-benda. Hal itu tampak dalam adat istiadat yang mereka aktualisasikan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari yang sangat ketat. Kehidupan beragama mereka tertutup dan sulit ditembus oleh dakwah Islamiyah. Namun dalam perkembangannya, kelompok Islam Wetu Telu tersebut pun akhirnya terkikis juga. Hal itu terjadi sebagai akibat positif dari dakwah Islamiyah yang dilakukan oleh para muballig bersama pemerintah setempat, diantaranya dengan memasukkan pendidikan agama pada sekolah-sekolah umum dan pembangunan masjid serta madrasah yang kemudian mempengaruhi kehidupan beragama mereka.

This paper, the writer states that the Islam came to a region never away from the dialogue or the dialectic with the culture of the region. Islam as a religion and a revealation is the great tradition and it come to hold a dialogue with the little tradition (locality). Therefore, the culture or tradition is something unseparated with the Islamic religion. Arab is a culture. Historically, when Islam was born in Arab, it made a dialogue with the arabic culture, the arable Islam in the course of time then meet and held a dialogue with the Persian Civilization. So that, it produced the conversive civility, with the unsure of Islam, Arab, and Persia. The meeting between Islam as the universal teaching (great tradition) with Arab and Persia (little tradition) were the indication that a teaching of a religion can not be seperated with the cultural value whereas such religion developed and preached.

This paper tries to elaborate the Syahrur's thought on Islam and Iman. Based on research on Tanzil Hakim, Syahrur identified that actually the pillars of Islam are the belive in Allah; the believe in the day after; and the good deed. If these three pillars can be fulfilled, someone may be called as a Muslim. The acceptance of those pillars are the begining for the people to come to the Iman, namely believe in the prophet hood of Muhammad, doing the prayer, spend the title, fasting in Ramadhan month, pilgrim to Mecca, syura (democracy) and jihad. Syahrur in formulating the pillars of Islam and Iman, put his argumentations in al Qur'an by the using the rigid linguistic analysis, but it can be understood for the mission of Syahrur is the spirit to refer to the sacred texts. The formulation of Islam is universal, while the formulation of Iman is particular.

This paper explores Rudolf Carnap's thought, an exponentand member of the Vienna Circle, on the logical positivisme philosophy. As most known, the logical positivism has influenced the natural science acceleration. Social and humanity sciences, including religion studies, have been dominated by physicalism of natural science methods which was developed on logical positivism ideas. Carnap's main works concerned on language and logics, semantics, and syntax. On logical positivism, Carnap's thought could be looked at in three sections: verification and confirmation, elimination of metaphysics, and imified of science (scientism). Its implication for religious living is the problem of meaning the religion texts according to logical positivism propositions, which be concluded that the propositions/texts of religion teaching have not meaning if they could be not verified or obeserved.

This article aims to provide an analysis about the relationship between religion and state in Islamic perspective, with critical observation on Islamic, ideal-moral of politics and its historical reality. For that, this article tries to discuss the Islamic precepts of politics in the Koranand Prophet traditions, let alone their practice in Islamic history. After that, an effort of political dialectics in Islam being mapped. Finally, they are reflected in order to sum a conclusions. Having discussed this theme, it is clearthat it is noteasy to reach a final and absolute conclusion about ideal relationship between Islam and state in the modern era. Whether Islam is being practiced as its formal form or substantive form, always become controversy since its origins. But the most important thing, to answer the question is Islamic response of political problem must describe universal-humane-long-term solutions, instead.
